WELCOME TO IRON FURNACE FIFTY CYCLING EVENT
Furnace Town - Snow Hill MD

The Furnace Town Living Heritage Museum and the Rotary Club of Snow Hill, MD co-sponsor the third IRON FURNACE FIFTY, an annual Fifty Mile Fun Ride (with 50 K and 100 K alternative), on May 11, 2013.

Starting and ending at Furnace Town, located between Snow Hill and Salisbury, the IRON FURNACE FIFTY bike ride passes through the most pristine and beautiful countryside on the Eastern Shore. The routes are perfect for bicycling. They’re fast and flat. A perfect start for the 2013 bicycle season. Route map with turn………..etc.Registration is $40 per adult prior to 4/15/2013 and $45 after.Youth under 18(with id) registration fee is $30 prior to 4/15/2013 and $35 after.Each participant receives a Long Sleeve I.F.F. Tee (Guaranteed if registration is by 4/15/2013), Route Map with turn by turn, a specific Rider Number, Delmarva Biking Map, Free Admission to Furnace Town where a free Luncheon with entertainment and complimentary beverages (beer! For adults) will be provided at the end of the ride! There are rest stops on the Route with water, fruit, snacks and Johns. Refund date: 5/1/2013

ONLINE REGISTRATION is open! We will accept Walk-in Registrations the day of the event, beginning at 7:00 AM, so you can still bring a co-worker, friend, family or neighbor and they can register at the event.

All profit from the Ride will go to Education Programs at Furnace Town, and College Scholarships awarded by Snow Hill Rotary.

MORE INFO ABOUT THE IRON FURNACE
& THE ROTARY CLUB

The Nassawango Iron Furnace was started in 1829 near Snow Hill Maryland. The Village of Nassawango developed in support of the Iron Smelting business, in which cast iron was produced from the bog iron ore found in the marshes and creeks of the Pocomoke River Basin. Abandoned in 1850, the town crumbled and dissappeared until only the mighty furnace remained.

Restoration work began in the 1960s, with the Furnace Town Foundation incorporated in 1982 to own, operate and interpret the Historic Site. Now the museum offers programs in archeology, history, nature and artisan interpretations to educate and enlighten the public; and they offer a view of the village as it was in the 1830s and '40s. The Nature Conservancy participates with the Foundation in support of the Visitor Center and operates the Paul Leifer Nature trail on the N.C. Preserve along Nassawango Creek.

The Rotary club of Snow Hill was chartered in 1941. The motto of Rotary International is «Service above Self». The principle focus of the Rotary Club of Snow Hill is Education and Health ( especially for those who lack the opportunity to fend for themselves; the poor and the young ) both locally and internationally, with specific local reading programs for elementary schoolers, toddler seats, scholarships, and international projects such as special aid to disaster areas, and drilling water wells in Africa.
